Hello and welcome to the Halloween history and traditions page. Halloween is celebrated on October 31. The Irish carried versions of the tradition to North America during the Great famine of 1846 in Ireland. The holiday is associated with the colors Black and Orange. Other colors such as green and red are popular also due to the characters Frankenstein and Dracula. Symbols for the Holiday include the Jack O'-Lantern, Bats, Skeletons, Scarecrows, Broomsticks and much more. Halloween activities include, Trick or treating, Ghost tours, Costume parties, Watching Horror movies, Haunted Attractions,  Telling Ghost stories, Listening to Scary Music, Creating costumes, Pumpkin Carving, and Face painting and much more.

Much of Halloween traditions in America has come from various horror movies. With movies such as The Mummy, Frankenstein, The Werewolf, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm street, and Halloween. Cartoons also has given us Halloween traditions. With cartoons such as It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. Every home it seems has a pumpkin during this time of the year.

 Cartoons:

It's the great Pumpkin Charlie Brown 1966, Fat Albert Halloween Special1977, Halloween is Grinch Night 1977, Bugs Bunny Howl Oween Special 1978, Caspers Halloween Special1979, The Flintstones meet Rockula and Frankenstone 1980,Disney's Halloween Treat 1982,  and many many others.

Trick or Treating is for Children on Halloween. Trick or treating has been around since before the Middle ages. Trick or Treating is fun and every child should be allowed to partake in the activity. Creating the costumes is as much fun as anything else I have done. Making costumes is fun for the entire family. Halloween is about the children having fun. Halloween time is a day when families should come together.

So go grab you a pumpkin and with some adult supervision get to carving. Carving a pumpkin can be very dangerous and should not be done without adult supervision.
